The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has issued 40 licenses to offshore gaming operators, now categorized as internet gaming licensees (IGLs). In 2023, these operators, previously known as POGOs, generated $54.39 million in revenue.
As of May 15, PAGCOR reported issuing nine provisional licenses to offshore gaming operators, alongside 40 regular IGLs and nine temporary IGLs.
In August 2023, PAGCOR mandated that all POGOs reapply for permits under revised regulations, which came into effect on July 12, 2023. This regulatory update followed ongoing controversies related to POGOs, particularly concerning the employment of foreign workers.
