Pennsylvania Senator Proposes Credit Card Ban for Online Gambling

Senator Wayne Fontana of Pennsylvania is preparing a bill to ban the use of credit cards for online gambling, sports betting, and even the state lottery iLottery. Fontana's proposal aims to address concerns about the connection between gambling and credit card debt, citing the association of gambling addiction with financial struggles.

In a memo to fellow senators, Fontana highlighted the tendency for gambling addiction to lead to financial debt, as excessive gamblers often borrow money to fund their habits. The proposed bill seeks to limit the use of credit cards in online gaming activities, including lotteries and sports betting, with the aim of preventing the accumulation of significant debt related to these activities.

Fontana emphasized the importance of addressing potential issues before online gaming becomes a reason for individuals to amass substantial financial burdens, given the average credit balances in Pennsylvania often exceeding $5,640. The proposed legislation aims to promote responsible gambling practices and financial well-being.
