South Korea Accuses North Korea of Spreading Gambling Sites
South Korea's National Intelligence Service has released a report accusing North Korean programmers of developing and renting out gambling sites infected with viruses. The cost of renting one web resource is $5,000, with monthly technical support priced at $3,000.
According to intelligence data, these sites are purchased by cybercriminals from South Korea. Furthermore, they are popular among Koreans, given that the country's laws prohibit participation in online gambling. Another reason South Korean residents visit infected online casinos is the opportunity to play in their native language.
North Korean programmers reportedly earn "billions of dollars" through fraudulent schemes involving the rental of gambling sites, according to South Korean intelligence. The intelligence service believes that North Korean IT specialists operate in close connection with the government, and the rental income contributes to the state budget.
