Spanish Regulator Plans Unified Data Register to Control Gambling Industry
Spain's gambling regulator, DGOJ, has announced plans to establish a unified registry of player data from licensed operators aimed at enhancing control over the gambling industry.
The initiative will integrate data from licensed operators into various government agencies, enabling the generation of a unified report on the gambling industry. As part of the requirements, operators will be mandated to create risk profiles for players under the age of 25.
Prior to implementation, DGOJ will conduct consultations with market participants and operators. The regulator expects to finalize the implementation plan by the end of the year, with the registry scheduled to commence operations in 2025. This initiative follows the approval by the country's General Assembly in March of last year, as part of the Responsible Gambling Environment Ordinance, to establish such a centralized registry.
In addition to the registry, DGOJ intends to enforce a rigorous Know Your Customer (KYC) policy that all gambling operators must adhere to. These measures are designed to combat financial crimes like money laundering and to safeguard individuals who may be vulnerable to gambling-related harm.
