The National Assembly of Slovenia has issued a warning regarding the increasing prevalence of unlicensed operators in the country's online gambling market. These operators are reportedly growing bolder, disregarding legislation, and finding ways to circumvent government attempts to block unauthorized online casino sites. The watchdog has expressed concern about the rising activity of the black market for online gambling, which not only poses risks to players but also results in unregistered companies evading tax payments.
According to Slovenian gambling laws, operators are required to obtain government concessions, demonstrating their adherence to the country's stringent gambling policies and their willingness to take responsibility for any violations. However, many companies continue to find ways to operate without obtaining the necessary licenses.
In 2023, Slovenian authorities conducted 115 internet checks to enforce the ban on illegal gambling activities. The government issued 34 notices to violators operating without licenses, and 28 of them persisted in their activities. Consequently, the regulator has sought intervention from the administrative court to block the IP addresses of these illicit online resources.
