Thailand is ramping up efforts to combat illegal online gambling as it navigates towards a regulated gaming landscape. Despite ongoing legislative developments, authorities are swiftly taking action against illicit gambling activities across the country.
A recent operation dubbed "Zero Rate" marked a significant crackdown on illegal online gambling operations in Thailand. Law enforcement authorities dismantled two illicit betting platforms, leading to the seizure of cash and luxury items valued at approximately $270 thousand, along with goods exceeding $1.6 million.
In a further development, the Royal Thai Police announced plans to establish a committee to investigate the deputy chief of the national police, Surachate Hakparn. Allegations of involvement in money laundering linked to illegal online gambling networks have been levied against Hakparn.
These measures underscore Thailand's commitment to curbing illegal gambling activities and enforcing stricter regulations, even as the nation transitions towards a legalized gaming environment. As legislative reforms progress, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain law and order in the gambling sector.
