The World Poker Tour in Hanoi Suddenly Canceled

The World Poker Tour (WPT), which was set to commence in Hanoi, has been abruptly canceled following reports that essential government permits were missing. This cancellation marks the third major tournament series in Vietnam to encounter significant issues within the past six months.

The Crown Poker Club in Hanoi, the planned venue for the WPT Vietnam Passport to World Championship 2024, announced the cancellation on social media. The series, which was scheduled to run from May 14-27, was called off "due to technical reasons," with the organizers emphasizing that the decision was made with the athletes' best interests in mind.

The cancellation reportedly stems from the failure to obtain the necessary permits from the Hanoi Department of Culture, which led the authorities to restrict the championship. This incident follows the termination of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Hanoi Billions in December 2024, which was halted due to alleged violations of local gambling laws.
