UK Authorities Warn of Economic Losses Due to New Betting Restrictions

The UK government has introduced official documentation outlining restrictions on bets placed on slot machines. Under the new regulations, individuals aged 18 to 24 will face a £2 (approximately $2.5) limit, while those over 25 will be limited to £5 ($6.33). Authorities caution that these limits could result in an annual loss of £166.2 million ($211 million).

In addition to the government's forecast, the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport has projected a 5.2% decrease in gross gambling revenue due to the latest restrictions.

The department suggests that implementing a rate limit for individuals over 25 aligns with economic goals "with less risk of unintended consequences." Their data indicates that less than one percent of spins on online slots exceed the £5 threshold.

Critics argue that these restrictions infringe on players' financial freedom and could be financially burdensome for the industry. Moreover, opponents fear that the introduction of limits might drive players to illegal platforms without such prohibitions.
