Ukrainian Casinos Contribute Over $272 Million to Budget in 2023

Tax revenues from the gambling industry to the Ukrainian budget reached 10.4 billion hryvnia ($272.5 million) in 2023, according to Daniil Getmantsev, the head of the Verkhovna Rada on financial issues. This marks a significant increase compared to the $19.13 million received in 2022. Getmantsev attributes the boost in revenues to an ongoing effort to formalize the gambling sector and bring it out of the informal economy. The industry was officially legalized in 2020. Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a Verkhovna Rada deputy, highlighted that the government's funds from the gambling sector increased by 51 times compared to 2021, emphasizing the positive impact of efforts to regulate and legitimize the industry.
