The United States is allocating $2 million to Mexico aimed at combating corruption in the bookmaking sector. This funding will enable collaboration between government and non-profit organisations from both nations to address issues such as illegal gambling, match-fixing, and other illicit activities associated with betting.
Officials indicate that the initiative will prioritise enhancing procedures and investigative methods to tackle corruption and money laundering in sports.
Additionally, the funds will facilitate improved cooperation among prosecutors, financial security units, sports governing bodies, and regulatory agencies overseeing sports and sports betting.
Applications for the grant are due by October 23, 2024. In related news, the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), a non-profit entity that supports reputable gambling and sports betting operators in fighting corruption and match-fixing, has recently launched an educational program funded by prominent operators and IBIA members including FanDuel, Betway, and bet365.
