In various UK cities, including Lancaster, Morecambe, Halton, Low Bentham, and others, 24 churches have received £76 million ($96.5 million) in donations from the National Lottery. The funds are intended for projects addressing food poverty. The National Lottery Community Fund, responsible for distributing government funding to support projects aiding the less fortunate, has pledged to continue providing donations for poverty alleviation.
The CEO of the National Lottery Community Fund stated that the funds were utilized for purposes such as purchasing food, renting housing, and offering consultations. Churches in Lancaster County, particularly those involved in supporting the impoverished, have received lottery donations. By Christmas, financial assistance was granted to the priests of St Peter's Cathedral, as well as the churches of Moorlands and St Wilfrid, to facilitate charitable projects.
