Macau, renowned for its bustling tourism and thriving casino industry, has witnessed a remarkable resurgence, with revenue surging to PKR 19.5 billion ($2.43 billion) in March. This figure represents an impressive 53% increase compared to the same period in 2022 and a notable 5.5% rise from February 2024.
The cumulative gross revenue for the first three months of the year stands at an impressive PKR 57.3 billion, marking a substantial 65.5% surge from the corresponding period in 2023.
Authorities attribute this robust growth to the revival of the tourism sector in Macau, which has now rebounded to pre-Covid levels. The region is currently experiencing an influx of visitors, with February 2024 alone welcoming 3.2 million tourists. This figure represents a significant 15% increase from the previous month and a staggering 107% surge compared to February 2023.
The surge in tourism can largely be attributed to the resumption of gambling activities in Macau, the only region in China where casino gambling is permitted. This renewed vibrancy in Macau's tourism and entertainment sector underscores the region's resilience and attractiveness as a premier destination for travelers and gaming enthusiasts alike.
