Portugal has hit a new milestone in its online gambling sector, reporting a record-high revenue of €215.3 million in the third quarter of 2023. This impressive figure is attributed to the ongoing growth and development of the country's gaming segment.
The total industry revenue for the three months ending on September 30, 2023, surpassed the previous record of €122 million set in the second quarter by 4.6%. Moreover, the third-quarter revenue marked a substantial 36.1% increase compared to the same period in 2022 when revenues were €158.2 million.
Despite the overall positive trend, analysts observe a decline in Portugal's income from the betting sector. Sports betting revenue for the third quarter amounted to €81.9 million, reflecting a 17.7% increase from 2022 but a 2.5% decrease from the second quarter of 2023.
