Rising Gambling Trends in Slovakia: €1.32 Billion Spent in 2023

In Slovakia, the gambling landscape witnessed a notable uptick in activity, with citizens collectively spending €1.32 billion on various games in 2023. This marked an increase of €130 million compared to the previous year, reflecting a growing engagement with gambling activities. Martin Bohosh, CEO of the Gambling Regulatory Authority, highlighted the surging popularity of online casinos as a significant contributing factor to this trend.

Bohosh pointed out that the majority of Slovaks are now opting for online casinos accessed via the internet, indicating a shift towards digital platforms for gaming entertainment. Additionally, he noted that online betting through bookmakers has also emerged as a favored segment, further expanding the accessibility of the hobby to a broader audience.

The government's revenue from gambling also saw a substantial rise, surpassing €301 million in 2023. This marked an increase of over €50 million compared to the previous year, underscoring the significant economic impact of the gambling industry in Slovakia.
