Swedish Gambling Companies Report SEK 6.7 Billion Turnover in Q1 2024

Swedish-licensed gambling companies have reported a total turnover of SEK 6.7 billion ($623 million) in the first quarter of 2024. This figure represents a slight increase of just over 1% compared to the previous year, with the data being preliminary at this stage.

Commercial online games were a significant contributor to this turnover, accounting for SEK 4.2 billion. This marks the highest turnover for the first quarter since the introduction of the licensing system in 2019, highlighting the increasing dominance of online gambling platforms in the Swedish market.

During the first quarter, the number of individuals self-excluded from gambling via Spelpaus.se, Sweden's national self-exclusion register, nearly reached 110,000. This represents a 6% increase compared to the previous quarter, underlining the ongoing efforts by individuals to manage their gambling activities responsibly.

The Swedish gambling market continues to evolve, with online platforms playing an increasingly important role in the industry's overall turnover. As regulations and player protection measures continue to be refined, the market is expected to see further developments in the coming quarters.
