The Australian Senate has approved a bill amending interactive gambling laws to prohibit the use of credit cards in online casinos. The ban will extend to all credit services and payments for any content, including sports betting. Experts note that this effectively represents a nationwide ban on the use of credit cards for transactions in the gambling industry.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority will enforce the law. The agency can impose a fine of up to 234,750 Australian dollars (nearly 155,000 US dollars) for using a credit card (including fraudulently) to pay for gambling activities.
