The New South Wales Authority for Alcohol and Gambling in Australia, responsible for managing the regulatory framework for casinos and sports betting, has declared zero tolerance towards the advertising of illegal establishments within the industry.
Inspectors from the regulator discovered illegally placed signs at the Royal Hotel and Stardust Hotel. The first establishment used cartoonish alcohol advertisements, which could attract minors, while the second had an entrance arch painted like a gaming machine around the external entrance to the gaming room.
Due to the recently passed law prohibiting outdoor advertising of gambling, the regulator’s inspectors visited more than 1,200 establishments in 53 local government areas in New South Wales. Only 55% of establishments authorized to place gaming machines were exceptions allowed to display banners with slot machine imagery.
