A 64-year-old baccarat dealer at the Mohegan Sun land-based casino has been accused of manipulating games, resulting in a loss of $124,000.
In April 2023, the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs discovered suspicious card-handling practices by dealer Yu Wen Fu. Surveillance cameras revealed that Fu shuffled the deck in a specific manner before player Haoen Jiang joined the table, and the investigation concluded they were conspiring. The fraudulent activity occurred over a month, leading to casino losses amounting to $124,260. Although the crime occurred in spring 2023, the dealer's guilt was only proven and the arrest made in early 2024.
In the baccarat card game, players wager on the outcome of a card hand, with the player or dealer needing to reach nine points for victory. Fu allegedly signaled the attainment of the required points by strategically placing face cards in the deck. During interrogation, Jiang denied collusion with the dealer, but Fu's mobile number was found in his phone records.
