Brazilian senators have voted to approve amendments to Bill 3626/2023 that will regulate sports betting. Voting was supposed to take place on December 6, but it was postponed.
Although the bill was met with disapproval from part of the Senate, it passed. The discussion focused on three points. The document completely excluded the gambling business, virtual gambling and terminals for sports betting. An amendment banning advertising of betting in stadiums was rejected. Plus a separate bill will be created for the gaming industry.
Senators also approved recommendations on taxation of 12% of income instead of 18%, as before. Players will only pay tax once a year at the rate of 15% of their net winnings. Operators will have to contribute up to 30 million Brazilian reals ($6.1 million) before authorities allow them to operate five different brands.
