Buenos Aires Legislators Propose Stricter Measures to Safeguard Against Underage Gambling
Lawmakers in Buenos Aires are taking steps to bolster regulations surrounding gambling activities, both online and land-based, in order to safeguard against underage participation. Municipal deputies Paola Michielotto and Sergio Siciliano have proposed amendments to the Code of Contraventions aimed at imposing stricter penalties for violations related to underage gambling.
Expressing concerns over the prevalence of gambling advertisements targeting minors, particularly on online platforms and during televised sports events, the legislators underscored the need for enhanced measures to ensure that gambling activities are restricted to individuals over the age of 18. The proposed amendments seek to address this issue by introducing stringent penalties for businesses found to be in violation of age restrictions.
The legislative initiative aims to develop four new articles within the Code of Contraventions, outlining specific penalties applicable to gambling establishments that fail to comply with regulations pertaining to underage gambling. By strengthening regulatory oversight and enforcement mechanisms, lawmakers hope to mitigate the risks associated with underage gambling and promote responsible gambling practices within the Buenos Aires jurisdiction.
