The Conferenza Unificata (CU) has suggested that the Italian government designate 5% of slot machine revenues to regions, with the Ordinary Statute supporting gambling reorganization plans. CU, responsible for coordinating collaboration between the state and governments of regions and municipalities in Italy, is seeking additional funding to address supervisory challenges in the gambling sector.
CU members identified potential shortcomings in overseeing gambling establishments and requested increased financial support. The conference called for €300 million to be added to its annual budget, aimed at promoting responsible gaming policies and monitoring land-based gambling establishments. Regions in southern Italy and islands, including Sicily, Sardinia, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Valle d'Aosta, are subject to a special statute, each with its unique reasons for regional autonomy.
These regions, known for differences in dialects and historical aspirations, have the CU as a bridge between their governments and the central Italian administration.
