Dentist sentenced to prison after terrorist attack on casino electrical system

A Colorado-based dentist, 35-year-old Mohammed Reza Mesmarian, has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in a terrorist attack on the electrical system supporting multiple casinos in Las Vegas.

In January 2023, Mesmarian deliberately crashed his vehicle into a fence, colliding with a transformer and igniting a fire. Eyewitnesses reported that he observed the flames for approximately 15 minutes before leaving the scene. Fortunately, no injuries resulted from the fire.

Having pleaded guilty in November, Mesmarian's defense argued that he developed mental health issues following his experience with COVID-19, as well as the subsequent loss of his marriage and business. However, a thorough examination determined that Mesmarian, a former dentist in Aurora, was mentally competent and aware of his actions during the incident.
