The German Sports Betting Association (DSWV) has urged for strategies to attract players from gray areas to the legal betting market. The regulatory leadership stressed the significance of the legal sector, highlighting the protection it provides to gamers who opt for licensed operators, shielding them from various risks. Additionally, the DSWV emphasized that the legal gambling market contributes valuable tax revenues to the German treasury.
Since the implementation of the German Gaming Treaty in 2021, the country has witnessed a notable surge in black-market online casinos. Simultaneously, the number of individuals patronizing legal gambling establishments has dwindled, as many were enticed by bonuses from unregistered platforms. The association contends that this situation not only adversely affects the legal gambling sector but also poses risks to consumers.
Citing their data, DSWV revealed that approximately half of gamers engage with platforms operated by illegal operators.
