Father and Son Arrested in India for Theft to Pay Off Betting Debt
42-year-old Ajay Kumar and his 19-year-old son Ashish were arrested on suspicion of stealing a gold chain to pay off a debt incurred from cricket betting losses.
The victim reported that two men on a motorcycle snatched her gold chain. The Deputy Commissioner of Police revealed that the thieves were identified using surveillance camera footage. He noted that the father-son duo planned to steal more jewelry.
Kumar confessed to losing over a thousand dollars in sports betting. He borrowed money to pay off this debt, and when the lenders started demanding repayment, he resorted to theft, involving his son in the act. Kumar managed to sell the chain for 70,000 rupees, which was insufficient to cover the entire debt.
Cricket is a team sport where players take turns hitting a ball with a bat, aiming to score the maximum points while preventing the opponent from doing so.
