Former CEO Melvin Boeselaar and former marketing director Robert Kooyman of BetCity have lodged a lawsuit against gambling corporation Entain, seeking €104 million in damages. This move comes as a response to Entain's accusation of BetCity artificially inflating its value during acquisition, a claim disputed by the former owners.
Entain acquired BetCity for €450 million in January 2023, aiming to tap into the Dutch market. However, a year later, Entain filed a lawsuit alleging that BetCity misrepresented its true worth, which was supposedly €156 million less than the agreed-upon price.
In their counterclaim, Boeselaar and Kooyman argue that Entain was fully aware of ongoing investigations into BetCity at the time of acquisition. These investigations involved BetCity's alleged violation of Dutch law by sending promotional materials to minors and its purported failure to implement adequate anti-money laundering measures. The counterclaim challenges Entain's assertion of ignorance regarding these matters during the acquisition process.
