The Gambling Commission (GC) and the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) have jointly announced a series of new regulations and standards for UK sports betting and online casino operators.
Under the new rules, operators will be mandated to implement several measures aimed at promoting responsible gambling practices. These include conducting customer surveys, facilitating requests for deposit limits, providing activity reports, and engaging in direct communication via phone or chat with individuals identified as vulnerable to gambling addiction.
Furthermore, operators will be required to conduct screening and risk assessments for customers seeking to deposit more than £5,000 per month. This assessment may involve scrutiny of the player's income and wealth to ensure responsible gambling practices are upheld.
The pilot program, set to run for six months, will see the phased introduction of these new regulations. Currently, individuals depositing more than £25,000 annually are obligated to provide documentation verifying their financial status, a measure aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability within the industry.
