The Gambling Commission's policy director for the UK, Ian Angus, suggests that the major changes to the gambling industry proposed in the government's white paper will come into effect next year. He said that important changes will be implemented in 2024, although some issues have not yet been finalized.
At the moment, the Gambling Commission is consulting on various aspects including financial risk, game design, marketing, and age verification for physical casinos. This consultation will close on October 18.
There will then be another round of consultation starting "in early winter", focusing on social responsibility and gambling management issues such as mandatory deposit limits and player consent. At the same time, the Ministry of Culture, Media, and Sport is consulting on a gambling levy to fund research education and treatment, and the Gambling Commission will provide its recommendations to the government on the levy. The levy will be introduced through secondary legislation.
