During a session where Chairman Akylbek Japarov reviewed reports on the 2023 activities of state enterprises, he criticized the performance of the State Lottery and proposed its closure.
"Why should the state maintain a monopolist company that does not make a profit?" he questioned the meeting participants. Japarov directed them to explore the possibility of liquidating the organization, which has been operating at a loss for the past two years.
In August 2018, Kyrgyzstan introduced the first edition of the State Lottery, known as "Ala-Too." The inaugural draw featured prizes such as a Toyota Camry 70, ten iPhone X smartphones, and other luxury items, with tickets priced at 100 soms (a little more than one dollar).
