In Australia, the Lottery Corporation is calling for their exclusion from the upcoming gambling reform that bans the use of credit cards for betting. They argue that lotteries have a lower risk of addiction.
The request came to the Senate after the government planned to change the gambling law to ban the use of credit cards for betting. Lottery Corporation is the only company in gambling to oppose the initiative. Their former parent company Tabcorp supports the ban, believing it to be a measure of responsible gambling.
The CEO of Lottery Corporation, Sue van der Merwe, believes that lotteries are less harmful and should be excluded from this ban. Some other operators, such as Sportsbet, also support the proposed ban on the use of credit cards for betting to protect customers from possible financial risks.
