The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has declared its commitment to combat social media influencers endorsing illegal online gambling. A representative of the commission, in an interview with The Sun, stated that negotiations with major platforms are nearing completion. Actions against those involved in the promotion of illegal online gambling will be initiated "no later than the second quarter of 2024," the spokesperson noted.
The Malaysian government is alarmed by the presence of illegal arcade apps disguised as "money-making games," promoted by influential figures on social media to showcase their earnings.
Online gambling is strictly prohibited in Malaysia. MCMC emphasized its "zero tolerance" policy towards any promotion of online gambling and highlighted active collaboration with the police to combat illegal activities.
