The casino resort has agreed to pay $6.8 million as requested by the Attorney General's Office (AGO). This compensation was ordered due to wage and hour violations.
More than 2,000 employees, including waiters, clerks, bartenders, and security guards, were victims of these violations. As part of the agreement, the casino will implement a compliance program that will be overseen by independent experts. They will be appointed by MGM and approved by the AGO. Massachusetts Attorney General, Andrea Campbell, promises to hold those who violate labor laws accountable.
She also expressed concern that service workers were not receiving fair wages and social security benefits. MGM Springfield was charged with various violations, including failure to pay minimum wage, failure to pay overtime, and withholding tips.
Most of the affected workers were paid hourly and were in various positions at the casino. Those affected included waiters, bartenders, security guards, and many other service personnel.
