Netherlands Introduces Deposit Limits on Bets
The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Dutch gambling regulator, has implemented new changes to the Responsible Gambling Policy Rules, imposing strict deposit limits on bets. The revised regulations were published on June 3 in the Official Gazette of the Netherlands and are now in effect.
Under the new rules, individuals aged 18 to 24 can deposit a maximum of €300, while those over 24 are limited to €700. If a young person aged 18 to 24 makes a deposit exceeding €300, the operator is required to perform a financial check to verify that the player can afford the deposit. The same procedure applies to deposits of €700 or more for older players.
Should it be determined that a player cannot afford the deposit amount, the operator must block any further deposits for the remainder of the calendar month.
There are provisions for exceptions to this rule, such as for professional poker players who may need to deposit larger amounts to participate in tournaments.
The KSA has indicated that while these rules are effective immediately, certain provisions, including the deposit limits, will not be enforced until October 1. This delay is to allow time for necessary adjustments and for operators to hire new staff to manage these changes.
