Congressman Paul Tonko of New York is preparing a federal bill that aims to regulate advertising and the use of artificial intelligence in the betting industry. Speaking at an event in Saratoga Springs, Tonko announced that the bill is nearly complete and will provide clear guidelines on advertising practices, accessibility checks, and the use of AI in sports betting.
The SAFE Bet Act will establish uniform national standards designed to mitigate the negative consequences of legalized betting. The legislation will implement oversight of advertising, require verification of players' solvency, and ban the use of AI to track bettor behavior and for targeted advertising.
The primary goal of the bill is to protect vulnerable individuals while preserving the freedom to bet. According to Tonko, current betting advertising is unregulated and resembles practices from the days of the Wild West, necessitating the introduction of new rules.
