Last week, several cybersecurity incidents affected two hospitals and several casinos that provide video lottery terminals (VLTs) in New York City.A spokesperson for the New York Gaming Commission, Brad Maione, confirmed that Everi, a VLT company, experienced a cybersecurity incident that is still under investigation.
At this time, there is no evidence of personal data leaked as a result of the cyberattack, but details of the incident have not been released, and it is unclear if the attackers demanded a ransom for data recovery.
The cybersecurity incident also affected Jake's 58 and Resorts World Hudson Valley Casino, although the latter was able to quickly resume operations. However, for Jake's 58, the impact was severe and the casino was forced to close for several days.
In addition, two hospitals in New York, namely Margaretville Hospital and HealthAlliance, also faced cyberattacks, which led to the interruption of their operations. Despite the difficulties, the hospitals remained open.
