Norwegian Regulator Issues Warning on Gambling Advertising

The Norwegian Gambling Authority (Lottstift) has issued a warning to companies engaging in gambling advertising, particularly targeting social media platforms with intrusive videos enticing individuals to try their luck at online casinos or promoting gambling for money.

It's important to note that gambling advertising is entirely prohibited in Norway. As per the Broadcasting Law, operators are not allowed to promote their services online, on television, or in public places. The recent warning primarily focuses on Rikstoto, a horse racing operator, and Norsk Tipping, a betting and lottery operator, according to the regulator.

Lottstift has also issued a warning to the streaming platform Schell, which broadcasted gambling advertisements featuring Norwegian celebrities. The regulator pointed out that this breached broadcasting laws, as the broadcasts were not limited to the Schell website but also extended to other streaming services like YouTube and Twitch.

The organizations in question have been given until February 20 to comply with the order and cease advertising gambling activities.
