Tombola, which operates the largest online bingo site in Europe, is planning to cut costs following its £402 million acquisition of Flutter (owner of Paddy Power and Sky Bet) in 2021. The initiative is aimed at saving money in the company's UK division, which employs 700 people. Employees in the customer service team were notified by email last week of the potential job cuts and held a meeting on Friday for those who may have been affected.
Tombola announced it had carried out a "wide-ranging review”. The company said in an official statement, "As a result of this review, some employees will be involved in a consultation process that will provide opportunities for redeployment within the company, but unfortunately will also result in layoffs."
Tombola made £117 million in the last year with pre-tax profits of £25 million.
