Ontario police have opened a criminal investigation against former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter. He is suspected of making illegal bets and disseminating confidential information.
According to information available to law enforcement agencies, there are people who used details received from Porter and made bets with DraftKings and FanDuel. DraftKings first reported suspicious NBA betting activity following the January 26th game.
It should be reminded that a professional player is prohibited from betting on games in the Basketball League. This is a violation of NBA rules. Any player who bets on his own team is subject to a lifetime ban. When the NBA began its investigation, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made it clear that he would not spare a player betting on his team.
“I have a huge range of disciplinary measures at my disposal. What Porter is accused of doing is considered a serious sin in the NBA. The most extreme option I have is to suspend the athlete from the game,” Silver said.
