The Dutch government is considering raising the gambling tax to 37.8% following a coalition agreement between four political parties. This increase is expected to generate an additional €202 million annually in gambling tax revenue.
In November, seven parties announced their intention to raise an additional €200-400 million in government revenue by increasing the gambling tax. The Netherlands Online Gambling Association (NOGA) has expressed concerns about these plans.
NOGA director Peter-Paul de Goey believes that the proposed tax hike could severely impact legal operators in the Netherlands. "This is highly risky as illegal operators do not pay taxes and operate outside the law, already actively attracting Dutch consumers," stated de Goey.
