State Duma Considers Draft Ban on Gambling for Alimony Defaulters

Russian senators Andrei Kutepov and Alexander Trembitsky have presented a bill to the State Duma aimed at prohibiting individuals with outstanding alimony debts from engaging in gambling activities. The proposed legislation would also extend to individuals whose legal capacity has been restricted by court order.

The bill's explanatory note emphasizes the necessity of safeguarding the rights of minors by prohibiting gambling organizers from facilitating betting activities involving individuals under 18 years of age. Additionally, to uphold the integrity of gambling establishments and protect the interests of visitors, operators would be empowered to expel individuals found to be in violation of casino regulations or other legal requirements.

A recent online survey conducted by Komsomolskaya Pravda revealed that 41% of Russian respondents support the deduction of child support payments directly from parents' salaries for transfer to the child's account. Furthermore, nearly a quarter of participants advocate for elevating the penalties for alimony defaulters from administrative sanctions to criminal charges.
