Dan Patrick, the Lieutenant Governor of Texas, has expressed dissatisfaction with the near absence of growth in the gambling industry in the state. According to the politician, only a few Republican senators have offered their support for casino-related initiatives.
Meanwhile, Texas is anticipating the arrival of Miriam Adelson, one of the wealthiest women in the gaming industry, who recently sold her shares in the casino operator Las Vegas Sands for $2 billion to purchase the Dallas Mavericks basketball team. Patrick is confident that Adelson’s arrival will give the proposed casino bill in Texas the “green light.”
Back in 2021, the state was resistant to legalizing gambling. However, in February 2023, Texas lawmaker and Republican Charlie Geren announced that he had proposed a constitutional amendment to allow gambling and casinos at seven resorts in the state.
