Thai authorities have shut down an illegal casino operating across two floors of the IWish Hotel, specifically on the eighth and ninth floors. These floors were rented out and accessible only to those with a special key card.
During the raid, police arrested 49 people, including 26 Chinese nationals, and seized about 3.5 million baht (approximately $100,000) in cash. Confiscated items included six tables for the card game Baccarat, a hundred decks of cards, six slot machines, and chips worth tens of millions of baht.
Torsak Sukvimol, the chief of the local police department, stated that several foreigners were employed by the casino, including citizens of Canada, Laos, Myanmar, and Singapore. Another law enforcement officer, Colonel Tanamet Wichitcharoen, revealed that the illegal gambling establishment had been operating for a month, as it was not detected during a check in October.
