The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has revealed plans for a pilot project to implement enhanced financial risk checks as part of the government's initiative to strengthen gambling legislation. The checks are designed to identify and intervene when players show signs of financial vulnerability due to gambling-related issues.
The primary objective of this system is to prevent users of online casinos and bookmakers from facing financial distress and to ensure compliance with responsible gambling conditions. The pilot project consists of two levels of inspections. The first level assesses the player's financial condition, checking for unpaid debts, bankruptcy filings, and related factors, using publicly available data.
The second level involves a more comprehensive evaluation of risks arising from substantial losses during gaming or betting. The UKGC emphasizes that this second stage requires a more in-depth examination of the client's financial situation.
