888 Withdraws Controversial Advertising from London Transport

In response to widespread criticism, gambling company 888 has opted to retract its latest advertising campaign from various locations across London. A company spokesperson confirmed to Gambling Insider that Transport for London (TfL) did not mandate the removal, indicating that the decision stemmed from negative feedback.

The advertisements, which were displayed in or around bus stops, subway stations, and inside train carriages, bore slogans such as "This car is now a casino" or "Your bus is now a casino." The messaging drew significant concern, with gambling harm expert Henrietta Bowden-Jones highlighting the potential negative impact on vulnerable individuals, including a schoolboy reportedly exposed to the ads.

In light of the controversy, 888 has chosen to alter its advertising approach, with the contentious posters subsequently being taken down. The company remains committed to responsible advertising practices and will refocus its efforts accordingly, in line with community feedback and concerns.
