Danish regulators create 'triple alliance' to crack down on illegal gambling advertising

The Danish Consumer Ombudsman, the Gambling Advertising Council, and the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) have entered into a new agreement to collaborate and enhance the regulation of gambling advertising.

This partnership aims to strengthen efforts in combating illegal gambling advertisements. Consumer Ombudsman Torben Jensen expressed great optimism towards this new collaboration.

He said the collaboration would strengthen market oversight and the joint effort would allow the Consumer Ombudsman, the Gambling Advertising Council and Spillemyndigheden to identify weaknesses in each.

“The agreement improves internal communication, ensures coordination and prevents duplication of work, which benefits consumers,” he said.
As a reminder, the Consumer Ombudsman and Spillemyndigheden are responsible for overseeing certain areas related to advertising and marketing.

The former is tasked with monitoring operators' compliance with the Advertising and Marketing Act and consumer protection regulations, while Spillemyndigheden monitors compliance with the law in relation to gambling and betting under section 36 of the Gambling Act and promotions regulations.
