In Pakistan, the broadcasting of a cricket match has been suspended due to the airing of a betting advertisement.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has halted the broadcast of a Test match between Pakistan and Australia on sports channel PTV Sports. The Pakistani broadcaster relayed the transmission through the Melbourne sports channel, and the betting advertisement appeared during the break between rounds.
Subsequently, viewers were assured a replay of all matches, minus the "harmful content." PTV has committed to resuming broadcasts once the matter is resolved to prevent further blackouts across the country.
PEMRA has cautioned all Pakistani television channels against airing content that may encourage sports betting. Earlier, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in Islamabad issued a memorandum expressing "zero tolerance" for gambling and betting.
