David Rebuck, the Director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), has announced his retirement after leading the regulatory body for an unprecedented 13 years. Rebuck's remarkable tenure, spanning over 36 years of service to the state, is the longest in the history of the supervisory authority.
During Rebuck's leadership, the New Jersey Casino Control Act underwent substantial revisions, bringing about significant changes in the gambling industry. The DGE assumed numerous responsibilities that were previously within the purview of the Casino Control Commission, and Rebuck played a pivotal role in implementing new regulations.
Notably, in February 2013, David Rebuck played a key role in legalizing online gambling and betting, making New Jersey the first U.S. state where residents could legally engage in real-money online gaming.
Starting as Deputy Attorney General in January 1988, providing legal counsel, Rebuck later joined the governor's office as a senior policy adviser under Chris Christie in early 2010. Shortly thereafter, he assumed the leadership of the commission.
As David Rebuck steps down, Deputy Director Mary Jo Flaherty will serve as the interim head of the regulatory body.
