Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a primary rival of former U.S. President Donald Trump, declared that sports betting should not be classified as gambling. He made this statement while responding to a lawsuit filed by West Flagler and Associates against him for expanding the rights of Native Americans to open casinos and betting shops.
Florida’s Attorney General, Ashley Moody, replied to the lawsuit with a 65-page letter, outlining reasons for dismissing the claim and emphasizing that sports betting cannot be equated with casino gaming.
Currently, legal betting is not available in Florida. However, authorities are proposing initiatives to open venues for legal sports betting. The state plans to allow only one service for this purpose – Hard Rock Bet, owned by the Seminole Tribe.
Ron DeSantis, a Republican politician, has announced his candidacy for the U.S. Presidential election in November 2024. His main opponent within the party is the former President, Donald Trump.
