Jamie Smith, 31, has been accused of conspiring with three gamblers to defraud the casino where she worked. Surveillance footage revealed that Smith exposed cards to players before they made their selections and allowed them to change their bets, resulting in losses of $43,250 for the casino.
MGM conducted an internal investigation following suspicions raised by employees. CCTV footage provided detailed evidence of the criminal activity.
Maryland State Attorney Aisha Braveboy emphasized the serious consequences of economic crimes, noting that such theft reduces the casino's tax contributions to the state budget, which in turn impacts funding for public schools.
Smith, facing charges of embezzlement and theft, could potentially be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
