Karen Coffman purchased a $20 lottery ticket at a nearby gas station in Freeport, Pennsylvania. To her surprise, the ticket ended up winning her one million dollars. Subsequently, the storyline of her life unfolded like a plot from a Brazilian TV series.
Meanwhile, Karen's husband Robert was battling a terminal brain tumour. Fearing he could no longer support his family, he expressed concern that Karen would be left without a provider and would have to work tirelessly without the presence of a strong man by her side.
Imagine Karen's surprise when she found out that her 20 dollars brought them the desired million! At first, she did not believe in such incredible luck, but then she realised that she had become a millionaire. The woman happily shared this news with her husband.
“Trembling with overwhelming emotions, I rushed home to share with Robert the news that changed my life. When I told him about the win, he thought I was lying to him,” says Karen Hoffman. Unfortunately, Robert died soon after this, and Karen herself considers this winning a “farewell gift” to her beloved.
Lottery officials presented the woman with a ceremonial check at the gas station where she purchased the ticket. The 61-year-old winner accepted the check with tears in her eyes and thanked the lottery organisers, not forgetting to point out that she still believes that her husband is “watching her from somewhere above and helping her.”
After receiving the lump sum payment, Hoffman quit her job and plans to move to Florida and take her entire family to Disneyland.
