Japanese Baseball Star Otani to Address Allegations Against Former Translator

Los Angeles Dodgers' standout Shohei Ohtani has announced plans to address the media following the dismissal of his interpreter amidst allegations of embezzlement. It was reported that the interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, misappropriated funds from a bettor to settle gambling debts.

Team manager Dave Roberts commended Ohtani's decision to speak out, expressing optimism that his statement would shed light on the situation. "I'm glad he's going to talk about what he knows [of the theft incident] and give his thoughts on the whole situation. I think this will give us all a little more clarity," remarked Roberts.

Accusations against Mizuhara came to light during the Dodgers' season opener in Seoul, prompting Major League Baseball (MLB) to sever ties with him and launch an investigation. Ohtani's legal representatives assert that Mizuhara utilized funds from a player within the club to settle debts owed to an alleged illegal bookmaker, who is also under federal scrutiny.

Ohtani, who penned a historic $700 million contract at the close of 2023, is expected to address the matter in his forthcoming statement.
